How to Prepare for a Tooth Extraction

Posted .

Tooth extraction is a very important surgery that will finally restore your oral health. If you are planning to extract a tooth in the next day or so, we are here to help you prepare! Our team at Blue Ribbon Dental wants you to have a smooth and successful experience at our office, so we strongly recommend doing the following things so you are prepared for your appointment:

Confirm plans
Make sure you know exactly what time your appointment is scheduled. You don’t want to be early or late. It is also a good idea to confirm your travel arrangements, whether they are with family members or friends. It’s best to have a ride to and from your appointment because the anesthetic and sedation might take some time to wear off.

Follow eating instructions
Dentists generally recommend fasting 8-12 hours before the treatment. If this is the case for you, don’t eat breakfast the morning of your surgery. Generally, it’s recommended that you do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your appointment.

Ask dentist for details
For calm nerves, you can ask your dentist about the details of the treatment. If you know exactly what is going to happen, you can use the time between appointments to prepare for everything that is required in a tooth extraction. This will also help you feel less nervous and anxious.
